Evacuation

The most exceptional protection measure is evacuation.

The government can eventually decide to protect residents of a certain zone by evacuating them to a place with little or no radiation outside the emergency planning zone.

An evacuation can be preventive, before the radioactive release reaches the zone, or postponed, after the radioactive release and sheltering.

The residents involved receive the following recommendations:

  • Stay calm.
  • Shut off water, gas and electricity.
  • Take a minimum of personal items (identity card, money, a few bottles of water, mobile phone and charger...).
  • Read more tips to prepare.

Practical guidelines will be communicated at the moment (who, to where, how, etc.).

The police services will establish a security zone.  No entry will be allowed into that zone once it has been evacuated.
